  1. Shibari Rope Care Instructions
Caring for your ropes is not only about aesthetics but also about safety, comfort, and respect for your partner. Below are the basic steps for handling new ropes and regular maintenance.

    1. Initial Care for New Ropes
New natural ropes jute are typically stiff. Over time, they soften and become more pleasant to the touch with regular use. However, to improve the quality of the experience and prolong the lifespan of your ropes, it’s recommended to perform basic treatment:

    Burning off the fuzz:
Over time, a small amount of fuzz may develop on the surface of the rope, which can cause irritation during binding. To address this, carefully burn off the fuzz by passing the rope several times through a gas hob's flame. Be sure to only burn off the fuzz, not the rope fibers themselves.

    Cleaning after burning:
After the burning process, wipe the rope with a cloth soaked in alcohol to remove any burnt fibers.

    Oiling:
After cleaning, apply a small amount of natural oil (flaxseed, jojoba, shea, etc.) evenly along the entire length of the rope. It is important not to overapply oil, as excess can make the rope sticky or heavy.

  3. 2. Regular Cleaning and Maintenance
Deep cleaning should be done every 2-3 months or more often, depending on usage.

Soak the ropes in warm water with a few drops of natural soap, wash a little by hands.

    Thoroughly rinse with clean water.

Hang the ropes to dry on a stick or rope in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight.

Once fully dry, do the burning process and apply a light coat of oil.

  5. 3. Storage Conditions
Store your ropes in a dry place, in a fabric bag or a box with ventilation.

Do not store ropes in plastic bags.

Avoid leaving ropes in a damp environment or under direct sunlight.

  6.
  7. 4. Things Not to Do
Do not use harsh chemical cleaning agents.

Do not boil jute ropes — this will cause them to lose their strength.

Do not dry ropes on radiators or under direct sunlight.

Do not apply too much oil.

Regular care of your ropes is part of responsible Shibari practice. Caring for your tools is caring for your partner.
